Hi Jleys,
Basic Info on Pandacan (my personal description)
Pandacan is one of the historical landmarks in Manila, where Francisco Balagtas once lived and Padre Jacinto Zamora (one of the GOMBURZA) was born. It was once dubbed as the "Venice" of Manila because it's surrounded by the Pasig River.
It belongs to the 6th District of Manila. It is surrounded by the Pasig River, Santa Ana, Sta.Mesa, Paco, San Andres and Makati. So basically, it's accessible to go around Metro Manila if you live in Pandacan.
It's just one (minimum P7-peso jeep or P9-peso bus) ride away from the following:
-Taft Avenue (LRT 1)
-Manila City Hall/ SM Manila/Lwton(just cross the highway and you can stroll around Intramuros na)
-Paco, Manila (church, various establishments, cheap groceries, cheap public market)
-Sta.Mesa, Manila (LRT Line 2)
Cost of living in Manila (Pandacan)
You're right, compared to Cebu the cost of living in Manila is relatively high. Here's a typical family budget of five (5):
-house rent – P8,000-10,000
-food – P300/day
-electricity – P1,500-2,000/month
-water -P500/month
-school (public school is free, we have J.Zamora Elem. School and Carlos P.Garcia HS and nearby Roxas High School in Paco; for private school it's usually P18k-25k per semester for primary and secondary educ)
Scared to move.. crowded and busy…
We'll it's just normal for you too feel this way, afterall you'll be venturing an uncommon ground… But believe me, once you set foot in Pandacan, you'll feel that it's just a typical place in Manila… It's something different from the pictures you see on the net and the stories you've read that it's something like Tondo, well every place in Manila has it's own hullabaloo… Oh! And every place in Manila is crowded, not only Pandacan.
If you need help in finding a house or a tour-guide around the place… Just buzz us here.. Somebody might be free to walk you around…
Goodluck!
