I always enjoyed going to Bona Cruz store. Kaya lang, i didn’t buy there all the time dahil may kamahalan. They sold school supplies, toys and gifts. Their store is clean, neat, bright and classy. I used to buy bananacue across it (between Labores Extension and Zamora). I also remember the “bigasan” on the other end and…of course, hte “plaza” where we always heard the “banda” practised their march songs for the fiesta!!!!

Bona Cruz store diyan nakatira ang aking teacher /adviser na si Socorro Bonacruz (SY1980-1981) Grade V ako nun. She is our Pilipino Adviser sa JZES. What a memories !!

History remains….. Through Apang Store, it continues the presence of Bona Cruz

Bona Cruz Store? Yup! I remember very much! It was owned and operated by a Teacher Mrs. Bona Cruz, a modest lady educator who once became my teacher in English (if I’m not mistaken). Once in a while before I go home, I find time to visit the store because of different toys, stationeries, and quality school supplies they are selling. Also I’m eager to buy one of those matchbox (scale model automobiles) displayed at the glass cabinet which happened that my cousin Ruel (who fortunately can afford) owned one. It cost a Hundred I think that time. That store I can say, is one of the main attraction for kids and moms in that area. But recently, I noticed that the store change its name and lost its glamour. Sorry…
Is there anyone here who can give us a good story why? And how is the condition of my teacher? Maybe she became reach thats why she never bother to continue her store.

Ako 1975. Adviser ko si Mrs de Jesus.

Wow! Memories. This was my lola’s store/house where I spent most of my childhood weekends in. Nice to see it getting featured in this site with fond comments from people who grew up there too. I remember the banana-que, isaw and bibinka (only during Christmas) at opposite corners as well as the kalamay store beside.

@Bongbong: question sir, bakit naging Apang from Bona Cruz store?
February 24, 2011 at 10:11 am |
I saw a “Bonacruz Store” in Facebook but it is quite empty.
June 17, 2011 at 8:33 pm |
just to clear things out, bona cruz changed it’s name bcoz it is under new management right now. also, the prices are not higher than before.and it lost it’s glamour bcoz the house is still owned by the bonacruz’s but the store is just being rented, take note, the store only, not the whole house…
June 17, 2011 at 8:53 pm |
dati pa kc yan kinuha, pero kung pipicturan nyo ulit yan, ngayon as in ngayong year na to, okay na ang apang store but they didnt rent the whole house but the store only, and after one house beside them, theres a new paharmacy shop at yung nagmamanage ngayon dun sa apang store sila rin ang nagmamanage dun sa pharmacy. isipin nyo nlang ngayon kung anong itsura ng apang store( syempre maganda na)!!! (bongga) !!!…………………………..

favorite din naming bilihan to ng sister ko during elementary days, dito kami bumibili ng scented stationeries, natatandaan ko pa yung square stationaries ko na amoy apple, orange, grapes.. then usong uso yung makikipag exchange sa mga classmates, teacher ko din c mrs. bonacruz

i remember this store because i live just a few blocks away. i used to go there to buy small gifts for my mom, sometimes for myself. there were a few dozen occassions when i walked with my little sister to this store to buy stationaries because, she was collecting them during those times. although i didn’t study at J. Zamora elementary, i still frequent this little store because it’ s the easiest access to school supplies for me. after school, i sometimes go to this famous Bonacruz store just to see what new toys they were selling. if i see a toy that i like, i get the price & immediately start saving my lunch money to be able to buy the toy. given that i never studied at JZES & Mrs. Bonacruz never got to be my teacher, being inside her store & being able to meet her even if it was just a buyer-seller relationship, i saw that the little old lady minding that store was a good person. although Mrs. Bonacruz sometimes look “masungit” i can tell that she has a good heart. i haven’t seen Mrs. Bonacruz in ages but i hope she is well & no matter what the name of that store is now… the little “Bonacruz Store” will forever be a part of my life
